Welcome to The path to Gimli. The path to Gimli is a journey by a small group of Icelandic horsemen from Eyrarbakki, Iceland, recounting the voyage their countrymen took to North America in the late 1800s.
Coming soon to this site will be pictures and video footage. We've captured the footage; it has yet to be posted on the website. The journey was a resounding success, with good company and high spirits along the way! It's a compelling story of Canadian and Icelandic history that is little known in Canada.
In the group was a 'Post Horse' carrying mail with a specially franked stamp created by Iceland Post for this event only. These letters, with this particular stamp are bound to become a valuable collectors item, and much sought after by generations to come.
